Moroccan carpets

A small selection of rugs and carpets photographed at random along my recent peregrinations in Morocco’s fascinating medinas and desert towns. The diversity of styles relates both to Berber and Islamic origins. In the cities weavers were influenced by oriental trends and since the 18th century a production of refined carpets got under way. Berber carpets originated in the Middle and High Atlas as well as in the Haouz plain: they are older and more original. Their design is linear and geometrical as the photos in the gallery below emphasize.
